The leak was small, but no one could find it. For 6 years!
This fertilizer plant had recurring corrosion under insulation and a faint acidic odor during startup. Multiple inspections, repairs, and even pipe replacements, but the leak kept coming back.
We were called in as a last resort.
What we found:
– A misaligned reducer with micro-cracks hidden beneath the liner.
– Incorrect gasket spec for the media.
– No spark testing done after previous repairs.
We replaced the spool with a fully spark-tested PTFE-lined section, corrected the flange alignment, and specified the right gasket.
Since then? No leaks. No downtime. Just silence.
Sometimes, solving a mystery means looking beyond the obvious.
Ever had to reverse-engineer a failure that kept slipping past others?
