
Inside the Oven, How Controlled Sintering Ensures Defect Free Liners
In fluoropolymer lining, the oven is more than a heat source. It is the stage where the entire performance of the liner is decided. A PTFE liner may look perfect before sintering, but without controlled heating and cooling, internal defects remain hidden until the pipe is in service.
Sintering allows PTFE particles to fuse into a single continuous structure. The temperature curve matters. Too slow and the material never fully consolidates. Too fast and internal stresses form. Inconsistent oven zones lead to voids, bubbles, and thin wall areas that later become leak paths.
This is why industrial grade sintering uses calibrated temperature ramps, monitored airflow, and verified soak times. When done correctly, the liner emerges with uniform density, zero internal cracks, and stability under pressure and temperature.
A defect free liner does not start at the flange. It starts inside the oven.
